Did New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose admit he is nearing the end of his career?

The Detroit Pistons and the former league MVP mutually agreed to seek a trade, with both parties eventually settling on the Knicks. Part of the amicable split might have come as a result of Rose's openness with Pistons head coach Dwane Casey.

Casey said during a recent appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio he spoke to D-Rose about the future, and the Chicago native explained he wanted to be with a potential playoff contender given his physical state:

“‘Coach, I’ve only got so many miles left in my legs,' Casey said Rose told him, via Ian Begley of SNY. ‘I want to make sure I go to a situation where I may have a chance to make the playoffs this year.'”

Rose played his first game with the Knicks on Tuesday. He scored 14 points in just over 20 minutes of run against the Miami Heat, shooting 5-for-9 from the field and finishing the contest plus-6 in terms of plus-minus. New York barely lost the game, but Rose and rookie Immanuel Quickley played well together.

The 32-year-old was glowing after the game, saying he was thrilled to be reunited with former head coach Tom Thibodeau and Knicks senior vice president William Wesley. It appears New York will provide the ideal situation for him over the course of the season.

But Rose's statement to Casey begs the question: just how long does he have left?

Rose is on an expiring contract this season. Might he really hang it up when the season is up, or does he plan to keep playing? Regardless, Rose seems to be very open and aware with respect to how much longer he can continue to play at a high level.
