The New York Knicks are ready to go for the 2023-24 NBA season, but before the campaign got underway, they had to decide whether or not they wanted to hand Immanuel Quickley an extension. Quickley was eligible for a rookie extension ahead of the start of the season, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement, meaning that the talented guard will be a restricted free agent next offseason.

Quickly is fresh off a breakout campaign with the Knicks that saw him finish second in the Sixth Man of the Year race behind Malcolm Brogdon. Quickley was a spark plug off the bench for New York (14.9 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 3.4 APG, 44.8 FG%) and showed enough growth that many felt he deserved a new deal from the Knicks. And while that didn't happen, it doesn't sound like Quickley was overly concerned by the development.

Via Fred Katz:

“Immanuel Quickley: ‘At the end of the day business is always business. If both sides can’t come to an agreement, it’s nothing too much crazy with that but like I said, I’m focused on getting better tomorrow, getting better the next day, and it’s gonna be like that the whole year.'”

Quickley figures to be set for a big role with the Knicks once again this upcoming season, and if he continues to grow, he could make New York regret their decision to pass up an extension for him here. Quickley is betting on himself when it comes to his future contract negotiations, and it will be interesting to see which side ends up benefiting the most from this decision here.
