Despite getting no suitors during the trade deadline, the New York Knicks are determined to keep Joakim Noah away for the team until further notice. The outspoken big man has been exiled after taking a leave of absence for “personal reasons” due to a fallout with head coach Jeff Hornacek.

Knicks general manager Scott Perry even noted a buyout would seem inevitable, after the team made moving him and his huge contract their top priority at the deadline, even trying to flip him in a deal for now-Phoenix Suns point guard Elfrid Payton, according to Marc Berman of The New York Post.

“There’s no new update — same place,” Perry said. “We weren’t able to get a trade done. He’s not coming back right now. He’ll be away until further notice.”

It seems even more unlikely for Noah to come back after rookie center Luke Kornet made a splashy debut, finishing with 11 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, and three 3-pointers on the night in 22 minutes of action — making the most of his opportunity at center with Enes Kanter out with a laceration in the corner of his mouth.

Kornet's outside jumper looked smooth, a welcome sight for Knicks fans after the loss of Kristaps Porzingis to a torn ACL earlier this month.

The 7-foot Vanderbilt standout center had spent the season with G League affiliate Westchester Knicks, making a great impression on the coaching staff at the Air Canada Centre. Kornet was one of the last Knicks added to the roster as a two-way player — he's allowed to play with New York for up to 45 days this season.
