Los Angeles Clippers superstar Kawhi Leonard recently confirmed previous reports stating that the new York Knicks were never really on his radar in terms of the potential teams he considered during last summer's free agency.

For most, this served as another blow for the Knicks after an incredibly disappointing offseason period. This does not appear to be the case for the Knicks themselves, however, as the team is reportedly viewing Leonard's recent comments as validation for the decision to pass on a meeting with the star forward.

Via Marc Berman of the New York Post:

Knicks brass, however, did not consider Leonard’s comment a blow. In fact, it only confirmed the decision to pass on a meeting with the 2019 Finals MVP that would have taken place four days into free agency.

The Post reported then that the Knicks considered themselves extreme long shots for Leonard. When they found out a meeting couldn’t take place until after he met with the Lakers, Clippers and Raptors, they decided to move on and sign players to fill their $70 million worth of cap space.

Critics blasted the Knicks for allegedly not being aggressive enough in their chase for the reigning Finals MVP, but New York is trying to paint the picture of being realistic and no longer wanting to waste any more time on something that was completely out of reach.

While there is truth to that, this still does very little (if anything) to help the Knicks' tarnished reputation after a miserable summer. As they say, though, when you're at the bottom, there's no way to go but up, so perhaps brighter days are coming for the New York Knicks.
