Friday night will be a special one for the Los Angeles Lakers as it will mark the unveiling of a statue outside Staples Center for one of their most dominant players ever.

Shaquille O'Neal will forever be immortalized with his own cast figure as a tribute to his unforgettable tenure with the team in the early 2000s. It is expected to be a star-studded event with his former teammate, Kobe Bryant, among the attendees to witness the festivities.

The Diesel spent eight seasons in L.A. where he and Bryant won three championships together from 2000-2002. They are widely considered as the one of the best duos in NBA history despite their much publicized feud.

O'Neal eventually was traded to the Miami Heat in 2004 and went on to win one more championship. His rare combination of size and strength with great post moves made him an unstoppable force during his career. He retired in 2011 after 20 seasons in the NBA and owns phenomenal averages of 23.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.3 blocks per game. He also won almost every award the league has to offer, including Rookie of the Year and MVP and was named an All-Star 15-times.

The two may have their differences, but over the past few years, they have seem to moved on from their feud and have even supported each other during big events that featured one of them. Lakers fans will have an opportunity on Friday to see the dynamic duo together once again, this time celebrating the contributions the 7-foot-1 center gave to their storied franchise.
