The Hampton Lady Pirates break their 14-game losing streak with a convincing 72-50 smackdown against the UNC Wilmington Seahawks. Hampton hadn't won a game since March 9, 2023, when they defeated Delaware in the opening round of the CAA Championships.

Both offenses got off to a hot start in the first quarter. The offensive firepower was particularly surprising for the Lady Pirates as they scored just 10 points to start in their previous game against Towson. Of their 20 first quarter points, Jenae Dublin, Camryn Hill, and Amyah Reaves accounted for 18 of them. Reaves was especially potent, scoring eight of her 18 points. Her steal and layup, followed by another basket from Tyra Kennedy, boosted the Lady Pirates to a 10-1 run towards the end of the quarter. Hampton led 20-11, but foul trouble gave the Seahawks six free throws that cut the score to 20-17.

The game script continued in the second quarter. Both teams jockeyed for position and traded baskets throughout much of the period until the four-minute mark. The Lady Pirates' defense tightened up, holding UNC Wilmington to just three free throws for the remainder of the half. In the meantime, the offense continued to hum as they sparked a 9-3 run. UNC Wilmington trailed at the half, 41-32.

The Hampton defense continued to hold firm at the start of the third quarter. They allowed just two baskets in nearly five minutes of play. On the other end, the offense kept churning out points. 10 seconds into the quarter, the Lady Pirates gained their first double-digit lead of the game. They refused to look back, ballooning the lead up to 20 points multiple times throughout the quarter. Towards the end, they extended the deficit to 25 points twice.

By the start of the fourth quarter, the game was essentially over. Hampton led 65-40 and UNC Wilmington couldn't keep up with the Lady Pirate's offense. The Seahawks slightly outscored Hampton in the final period 10-7, but the damage had already been dealt. The Lady Pirates walked away victorious for the first time of the year, 72-50.

The UNC Wilmington Seahawks struggled heavily on the offensive end. As a team, they shot 26.7% from the field while Hampton made 43.3% of their shot attempts. Sammy Ackles led them with a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double along with three steals. Kylah Silver had 11 points and six rebounds, and Mary Ferrito came off the bench with 10 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Jenae Dublin an Amyah Reaves combined for over half of the Lady Pirate's total points. Dublin finished with 21 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Reaves had 18 points and six steals.

Hampton continues their three game home stand against Monmouth on Jan. 26.
