The Los Angeles Lakers are in all sorts of problems right now. Their future as a team looks as messy as the situation of their front office. Yes, they have LeBron James — who will undoubtedly become one of the best players in the league once again if he's 100 percent healthy and committed to basketball — but they still don't have a coach.

There have been reports that the contract negotiations between the Lakers and Tyronn Lue fell apart because the team doesn't want to offer Lue a five-year deal. But at this point, with all the wrong things happening with the franchise, shouldn't the Purple and Gold management just give LeBron what he wants?

Of course, LeBron wants Lue, not because they're friends but because they've won a title together. They respect each other. The Lakers know this but they still refused to let the two reunite because they don't want people to think that the four-time MVP is controlling the franchise's decisions.

Well, for NBA analyst Colin Cowherd, the Lakers are doing the right thing, as he believes that the team should not give LeBron everything that he wants.

LeBron has made a reputation as someone who likes to impose his will to whatever team he signs with. The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat gave him his demands in order to keep him happy, but the Lakers don't want to be seen as another team that follows the megastar's orders. The LA management believes that it should be the other way around, that is why they didn't offer Lue the contract and the coaching staff that he wanted.

The Lakers haven't been productive in terms of their coaching search, and a lot of fans are already fearing that the same thing could happen during free agency.

It will be hard for Los Angeles to keep LeBron happy if they fail in free agency. However, they both know they have to make things work, especially with the future Hall of Famer on a long-term deal with the team.
