Jason Kidd reportedly has a strong relationship with Los Angeles Lakers superstar small forward LeBron James and mentored point guard Lonzo Ball last year, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

The Lakers are strongly considering adding Kidd to their coaching staff as an assistant:

Kidd and James were teammates on Team USA. Meanwhile, rumors have circulated that Kidd wants to work with Ball and help develop his game.

The Lakers are currently in talks with former Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic head coach Frank Vogel. If LA hires Vogel, they want to add Kidd as his lead assistant.

Kidd is in the Hall of Fame and one of the best point guards in NBA history. However, he struggled as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks and was fired midway through the 2017-18 season.

The Lakers haven't made the postseason since 2013. James averaged 27.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game this season, while Ball put up 9.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists. At this point, having Kidd work with Ball can't be a bad thing since he's not in line to get the head coaching job. Ball needs to improve as a point guard in the NBA and Kidd can help with that.
