The Los Angeles Lakers lucked out yet again in the NBA Draft Lottery, sending their lucky charm in second-year forward Kyle Kuzma and notching the No. 4 selection in June's upcoming draft. Yet according to ESPN's Jay Williams, it didn't make it any less awkward to see Kuzma forced to smile while his very own team could use this draft pick to ship him to New Orleans.

“I sat there and watched Kyle Kuzma all evening, and I know he was the Lakers' lucky charm, but how ironic is it that Kyle Kuzma and this team get this pick and my man after accepting the fourth pick is probably one of the tradable assets that will be used by Rob Pelinka to get a big time free agent to L.A. Think about how ironic that is.”

To clear it up, Williams is referring to Anthony Davis, though he will not be a free agent this offseason and won't be until the end of the 2019-20 season.

The Lakers however could use that No. 4 pick as a pot sweetener in a trade for Davis, an asset they didn't have during the trade deadline and could make a lot of sense for a front office that could look to rack up talent to put alongside consensus No. 1 pick Zion Williamson.

The pick could land them one of Williamson's two former Duke teammates in R.J. Barrett or Cam Reddish, or plenty of other high-ceiling options.

Kuzma is now the potential headliner of that trade when it comes to personnel, seen as the most ready-to-contribute asset the Lakers have on hand after the blood clot to Brandon Ingram has raised questions about his future as a player in this league.
