The Los Angeles Lakers were unable to create a superteam during the offseason, failing to land a third star after Kawhi Leonard chose to go to the Los Angeles Clippers. They still have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, arguably two of the top five players in the NBA today. Realistically, they can already contend for a title with those two leading the charge, but Kyle Kuzma believes he can be the third star for the Purple and Gold.

In an interview with ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk, Kuzma said he's confident he can be a superstar for the Lakers, adding that he has been working hard over the past couple of years to become the best player he can be:

“I don't feel no pressure, but I believe that I am capable of being that superstar. I put a lot of work in. My progress through my journey shows that I can be there. I developed every single year, dating back to college, and I don't see that development stunting at all.”

During his first two seasons in the league, Kuzma showed flashes of being that star player. It is one of the main reasons why Los Angeles didn't want to include him in trade scenarios.

Still, Kuzma feels he still needs to improve his game if he wants to take it to the next level:

“Last year I didn't shoot the ball well, and I still averaged almost 20 [points per game]. If I can shoot the ball well and keep developing the facets of my game defensively, I don't see why I can't [be that third star].”

Kuzma is currently on Team USA's training camp roster, and if he performs well enough, he could be part of the squad that will compete in China in the FIBA World Cup. Many believe Kuz's stint with the national team will help him improve tremendously.

Kuzma will definitely play a key role for the Lakers next season. How big that role is will depend on how good he becomes. He already told us what he believes he can do moving forward, and he's itching to show it out on the court.
