LaVar Ball believes LeBron James should leave the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Los Angeles Lakers to join forces with his son Lonzo Ball. These were his thoughts before the trade deadline deals that the Cavs made which brought in six new players but also gave the Lakers an opportunity to pursue James this summer.

The Lakers created cap space to make a run at James when he is expected to opt out of his current contract and become a free agent after this season. This was made possible by the trade between them and the Cavs that brought in Isaiah Thomas and Channing Frye.

The elder Ball says that his son is the main reason why the Lakers are a viable free agent destination after a less-than-attractive season last year. These were his comments in an interview with Lietuvos Rytas’ Laura Ivaškaitė via Josh Martin of USA Today.

“The Lakers were losing. Get Lonzo and everybody going to Laker games. Hey, LeBron might want to come to the Lakers. I did an interview and the people said, ‘Why LeBron?’ LeBron is coming here because of my boys. Whoever’s coming here is coming because of my boy.”

Lavar adds that “the Lakers had this same team last year and nobody was breaking they neck to get over here. So now you bring one guy into the fold, now they trying to come over here, yes, for my boy.”

“You guys had all this stuff going on before my boy got here and nobody was doing nothing. Wasn’t no sell out crowds, you guys were losing your ass off. Now you bring some new life to the Lakers, guess what? It’s my boy.”

The Lakers have improved this season but it’s a stretch to say that it’s because of Lonzo alone. The team’s leading scorer is, in fact, his fellow rookie Kyle Kuzma. After Lonzo went down with a knee injury, the Lakers have actually played some of their best basketball this season, winning seven of their last 11 games.

So if he wants to recruit James to the Lakers, perhaps Lavar should also consider including the other players in the mix when making a pitch for the four-time MVP.
