Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is on track to become the NBA's Christmas Day leading scorer and could eclipse the late Kobe Bryant at the top spot next season. On Friday, The King moved up to second all-time by moving past Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson, who scored 377 points in 12 Christmas Day games.
LeBron broke the record in the third period against the Dallas Mavericks at Staples Center, when he drilled a stepback three-pointer for his 19th point of the ball game. Apart from setting another individual feat, James also helped the reigning champs get their first W of the season by leading his team to a 138-115 victory.
James recorded 22 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds, and one steal in 31 minutes.
The 4-time NBA MVP now has a total of 380 points on Christmas Day and just needs 16 points to beat Bryant's record of 395 points. LeBron has been averaging 25.7 ppg on 48.7 percent shooting during December 25 games, so there's a high chance he will own that record as soon as next season.
LeBron does pride himself on never missing a Christmas Day game, despite his desire to spend the holidays with his family. Considering he's been the league's poster boy for a while now, the NBA will continue putting James and the Lakers in marquee Christmas day games. The four-time NNBA champion is set to turn 36 years old next week but is still going strong in his 18th NBA season.
As James' name continues to be put in conversations about the greatest of all time, being the league's top Christmas scorer can further bolster his already impressive resume.
