The Los Angeles Lakers have decided to part ways with long-time director of player personnel, Ryan West. Bill Oram of The Athletic reported the news on Saturday.

Ryan, son of Laker legend Jerry West, was first hired by the team in 2009. His most notable contributions, according to people from within the organization, was the drafting of Jordan Clarkson with the 46th pick in 2014 and D'Angelo Russell, the second pick in 2015. Although both players are no longer with the team, they have shown a tremendous amount of talent throughout their young careers in the NBA.

It is unclear as to why both sides have agreed to cut ties, but with Ryan's experience with the Lakers as well as him being the son of an iconic NBA figure, it wouldn't be hard for him to find a new job.

Ryan's involvement with the Lakers is mostly to help them find talented players through the draft. However, they do not have any picks over the next few years because of their blockbuster trade for Anthony Davis, which is probably the reason why both sides have agreed to no longer continue the partnership.

At this point, there is no indication of Ryan having an interest in joining the L.A. Clippers, the team where his father works as an advisor. Teams who are in rebuild mode could use West's expertise. The Oklahoma City Thunder might want to consider bringing him in, considering their ridiculous amount of future first-round picks.

As for the Lakers, it is unlikely that they will find a replacement for West anytime soon.
