LeBron James has never looked more human than he has after getting ousted in the first round by the Phoenix Suns. Despite the huge setback, the Los Angeles Lakers frontman plans to come back stronger next season. But apparently not everyone thinks that he should suit up again.

According to his former teammate Channing Frye during the NBA Twitter Live broadcast of Lakers-Suns Game 6, the Lakers star ought to hang 'em up right here and now.

Listen to Frye's stunning statement here below:

“If LeBron is averaging less than 25 points a game, I think he should retire… Who are the Lakers bringing in that can put him over the top?”

I'm sorry, what? Frye has been a respected voice after his own retirement, appearing in his own podcast with another ex-LeBron teammate in Channing Frye. However, this take seems much too wild and extremely reactionary. Where is he getting the sub-25 points claim from? It feels like such an arbitrary number, and one that James in fact reached in his second season with the Lakers.

The 14-year NBA veteran then goes on to disparage Anthony Davis, claiming the Lakers might not even have him available for 30 games. LA doesn't have any moves available that can help their cause next season, at least according to Frye.

He further elaborated that the Lakers star may be overstaying on his perch atop the rest of the league, which may change perception on him that's been built since he entered the NBA in 2003.

“Don't stay long enough to be the villain and ruin all the work he's done for 18 years.”
