With Dwight Howard agreeing to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Los Angeles Lakers are exploring a deal with free agent Marc Gasol to fill the void, the New York Times' Marc Stein reports.

Not long after free agency began, it appeared that Howard was all set to stay with the Purple & Gold, tweeting that he was returning. However, the announcement was quickly deleted, and 75 minutes later a deal with the 76ers was reported.

With Dwight out of the picture, the Lakers have quickly moved on to Marc Gasol, who was an importance piece of the Toronto Raptors' championship squad in 2019 as well as their near return to the Eastern Conference Finals in the bubble this past season.

At 35, Gasol isn't going to play at an All-Star level like during his prime with the Memphis Grizzlies, but Marc's defensive and rebounding prowess, as well as his ability to stretch the floor with an improving outside shot, would greatly help the Lakers as they look to defend their title.

Gasol was drafted by the Lakers in the second round back in 2007, only to be traded to the Grizzlies in the deal that landed Los Angeles his brother, Pau Gasol.
