There’s a new sheriff in LA county now following LeBron James’ decision to join the Los Angeles Lakers take his talents to La La Land beginning next season. Apparently, there’s also going to be a new point guard for the Purple and Gold with Rajon Rondo also agreeing to a deal with the team.

According to Ramon Shelburne of ESPN, Rondo’s role on the team depends on who will be deemed as the best on his job.

In other words, the starting guard position is going to come down to a choice between Rajon Rondo and Lonzo Ball. But with Rondo agreeing on a brief one-year deal worth $9 million with the Lakers, it’s likely that the Lakers are going to put Rondo atop the pecking order of the Lakers’ point guard depth with Ball acting as his chief reliever.

How well Rondo – or anyone on the Lakers – would blend with LeBron is something that remains to be seen, but the 32-year-old point guard’s addition to the team guarantees that Los Angeles will not be short on players who excel in setting the table on offense. However, Rondo, like Lonzo Ball, is also another guard with a susceptible jumper and an inconsistent perimeter game.

Last season with the New Orleans Pelicans, Rondo averaged 8.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 8.2 assists while also shooting 46.8 percent from the field and a mere 33.3 percent from deep. Ball, on the other hand, put up averages of 10.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 7.2 assists while making 36.0 percent of his field goal attempts and only sinking 30.5 percent of his shots from distance.
