When talking about the old school, Larry Brown has got to be a candidate to become its poster boy.
For one, the former NBA head coach is not a fan of playing youngsters – as Darko Milicic learned the hard way. That’s why it doesn’t come as any surprise how he’s not fond of the way the Golden State Warriors have built a “death lineup” this summer.
In an interview with SiriusXM NBA Radio, Brown sounded off on this particular dislike.
“I’m not really excited about the fact that the best players are teaming up together. I don’t think Michael (Jordan) would have done it or Larry Bird or Bill Russell or Magic. I don’t think those guys would have done it. I’m not real comfortable with the league going in that direction.”
It’s certainly different from how it was conducted back in the day, but the formation of these teams also adds another dimension to today’s NBA.
The Warriors are now home to what many call as “bandwagon fans”, and they are also recognized by many as today’s villain team, akin to what the Miami Heat experienced when they assembled their own Big Three.
To be fair though, it's hard to blame the Warriors for trying, and ultimately succeeding. When a player like Kevin Durant goes to the open market, one has to pull all strings in order to acquire him.
As for the critics, Larry Brown isn’t the first one to speak his mind out on the Warriors, and he won’t be the last.
