Lonzo Ball was the subject of a lot of criticism on Twitter Thursday, after he revealed that his first signature shoe under Big Baller Brand has a $495 retail price.

The twitterverse had a field day and did not hold back in letting the former UCLA guard know their thoughts about his sneakers and the lefty price tag. Always known to be outspoken, Lonzo's father, LaVar Ball, has now fired back at the hate his son received by tweeting that those who cannot afford the ZO2's are not “big ballers.”

Despite being a top prospect for this year's draft, many were surprised that the bigger shoe and apparel manufacturers like, Nike, adidas and Under Armour did not sign the younger Ball to an endorsement deal. Many believed that it may have been caused by the negative publicity he and his father have been stirring the past few months, and the fact that LaVar wanted Big Baller Brand to be licensed as part of the deal.

With the announcement of the release of his first signature shoe and slides though, it appears that his family may have already planned this out all along as a backup if he did not receive an offer from the other sneaker companies.

It remains to be seen if the public will patronize his kicks or not once they're actually on people's feet. However, based on how much the signature footwear of some of the superstars in the league cost — much, much lower even for top players — it wouldn't be a bad idea if the Balls decide to drop the prices of the ZO2s, especially being their first release, and with Lonzo not even in the NBA yet.
