This feels like it's been in the making forever now. The release date for Space Jam 2 is July 16th and on Monday a sneak peek was provided with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James at the forefront.

An original sequel revolving around Michael Jordan was originally planned and discussed in 1997 but it never came to fruition. There were other opportunities throughout the years where the idea was brought up over and over but nothing ever manifested. It wasn't until 2014 when Warner Bros. announced a sequel would be in the works with LeBron James and a short time after that when plans were finalized to get production going.

Some have soured on the idea before the film has even come out simply because they didn't want a sequel after the original that featured Michael Jordan. It has brought out the worst in the MJ – LeBron debaters at times.

The original Space Jam came out in 1996 and now 25 years later, the LeBron James sequel is all teed up and ready to go.

All the usual Looney Tunes characters will be apart of the film. It's a list that includes: Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Lola Bunny, Tweety Bird, Marvin the Martian, and plenty of others.

The official cast includes LeBron, Don Cheadle, Khris Davis, S0nequa Martin-Green, Cedric Joe, Ceyair Wright, and Harper Leigh Alexander.

Cameo appearances will be made by NBA players Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, Draymond Green, and Kyle Kuzma. WNBA players that will appear include: Chiney Ogwumike, Nneka Ogwumike, and Diana Taurasi.
