The New York Liberty take on Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Our WNBA odds series has our Liberty Fever prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Liberty Fever.
The Caitlin Clark WNBA journey arrives at another special moment. Clark had her WNBA regular-season debut on Tuesday night against the Connecticut Sun, but that was a road game. This is her WNBA regular-season home-court debut for her new franchise, the Indiana Fever. A raucous Indianapolis crowd will welcome Clark with unwavering and robust support, and it will be fascinating to see how much the adrenaline rush from a home crowd can carry the Fever in a battle against last year's WNBA runner-up, the New York Liberty.
There was a wide gulf between New York and Indiana last year in the WNBA. New York was one of only two WNBA teams to win over 30 regular-season games out of 40. The champion Las Vegas Aces went 34-6, and New York went 32-8. Third-place Connecticut went 27-13, and fourth-place Dallas went 22-18. The Fever were 13-27, a full 19 games worse than the Liberty. Caitlin Clark is a great player, but she will need help to lift Indiana to the same level the Liberty currently inhabit.
New York didn't play a great season opener on Tuesday, but it did rally for a road win against the Washington Mystics. This is a veteran team with proven players. In many ways, New York is at the opposite end of the spectrum compared to Indiana — not just in terms of wins and success, but in terms of WNBA experience and simply having real-world knowledge. Caitlin Clark is just starting her journey as a pro ballplayer. The Liberty, with Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, Courtney Vandersloot, and other stars, have been through the battles and understand the nuances of the pro game. Caitlin Clark's learning tour is only just beginning. These teams are truly opposites in a larger sense.

Why The Liberty Could Cover The Spread
Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston are going to be great, but the Liberty are great right now. They have the proven veteran experience the Fever lack. It's going to show up in this game and for much of the season. Indiana got hammered by the Connecticut Sun in their season opener. Caitlin Clark, at Iowa, had a top-four team in the country. The best players in the nation were on her team. Iowa did not operate at a talent or experience deficit except in the final versus South Carolina. Here in the WNBA, Caitlin Clark is not playing on the most talented and equipped roster. She lacks help, and the Liberty will expose that reality.
Why The Fever Could Cover The Spread
The Fever can ride their home crowd and play above their pay grade against a Liberty team which trailed the Mystics for a good portion of Tuesday's game. The Liberty have seasoned players, but while that's an advantage in some ways, it also means these players often try to pace themselves instead of going all-out on every possession. That can cause the Liberty to fail to cover the spread, as was the case against the Mystics. That scenario could recur versus the Fever.
Final Liberty-Fever Prediction & Pick
Caitlin Clark will continue to struggle against superior teams. Take the Liberty.
Final Liberty-Fever Prediction & Pick: Liberty -7
