The Detroit Lions continue to fortify their roster in the offseason. Shortly after news broke out that the Lions have inked Philadelphia Eagles safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to a deal, Detroit made another front office maneuver, with NFL insider Ari Meirove reporting that two-time Pro Bowl long snapper Jake McQuaide has also decided to bring his talents to the NFC North division team.

“The #Lions have signed former #Rams and #Cowboys Pro Bowl LS Jake McQuaide to a 1-year deal,” Meirove tweeted.

McQuaide has been around the NFL for a long time now. The 35-year-old McQuaide entered the league in 2011 as an undrafted free agent out of the Ohio State Buckeyes football program signed by the then-St. Louis Rams. He would play for the Rams franchise until the 2020 NFL season. McQuaide earned Pro Bowl nods in 2016 and 2017 during his time with the Rams.

After his stint with the Rams, McQuaide would join the Dallas Cowboys where he spent the 2021 and 2022 campaigns. He only played three games in 2022 for the Cowboys, as an upper-body injury and surgery to repair it forced him to miss the rest of the campaign following a Week 4 matchup against the Washington Commanders.

Jake McQuaide is joining a Lions squad that has big dreams for the 2023 NFL campaign on the heels of an encouraging 2022 season in which Detroit finished with a 9-8 record — the franchise's first winning season since 2017. While they failed to make the playoffs in 2022, the Lions can be considered one of the teams to watch out for in 2023.
