Rookie wide receiver Quintez Cephus has just scored his first NFL touchdown for the Detroit Lions, and it came in spectacular fashion.
Facing a daunting Chicago Bears defense in their Week 13 game, Cephus caught a deep pass from Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford and landed in the end zone for a 49-yard touchdown.

With 2:22 left in the second quarter and the Lions facing a 16-6 deficit against the Bears, Detroit was on first and 10 at Chicago’s 49-yard line. Stafford, who faced pressure from Bears outside linebacker Khalil Mack, threw a long pass toward Cephus, who was covered by Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller.
But the 22-year old Cephus, a fifth round pick in the 2020 Draft out of Wisconsin, gave Fuller a stiff arm before catching the bomb by Stafford as other Bears defenders stood helplessly. The score, which was Stafford’s 19th touchdown pass against eight interceptions this season, allowed the Lions to cut the lead down to 16-13 late in the quarter.
The Lions are playing their first game since firing head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn after a 41-25 loss to the Houston Texans on Thanksgiving. They hope to get just their fifth win of the season against seven losses and first since a 30-27 win over the Washington Football Team in Week 10.
