We have another new AL Rookie of the Year favorite. Luis Gil is now the betting favorite to become the next AL Rookie of the Year over Mason Miller for the Oakland Athletics. Gil has been great for the Yankees and has odds at +125 on FanDuel and has burst onto the scene this season and has helped the Yankees a lot to the point of them having the highest ERA as a pitching staff in the MLB at 2.76 ERA. Gil has been great and pushed an already great pitching staff over the top as the best in the MLB.

Luis Gil has earned his stripes with the Yankees. He has the most wins of any player in the Yankees pitching rotation and sits with a 7-1 record, while also having the best ERA on the team at 1.99 ERA, and the best WHIP in the starting lineup at 0.95. He had a historic month in May and did something on the mound no other Yankee had ever done before. He had 40 or more strikeouts and an ERA of 0.75 or lower during the month and was nothing short of great.

Contenders for AL Rookie of the Year

Luis Gil's been red-hot on the mound and has made this award very close and contested between not just him, but also Mason Miller, and Wilyer Abreu. This race is going to get close down the stretch and has already had a lot of changes so far and we still have half of the season left.

Here are the MLB odds, courtesy of FanDuel.

Luis Gil (+125): Luis Gil is seeing a full opportunity this season after getting called up a few times starting in 2021. Gil came from the Dominican Republic and has had an instant impact on the Yankees, a team that has a history of great players. Gil leads the entire Yankees team in wins, and ERA, and is the best pitcher in WHIP in the starting lineup. Gil has been the best pitcher for the Yankees on the mound and the staff is the best in the MLB. He is playing the best for the best staff across the board on the mound and is somehow only getting better. It helps that Gil is on the Yankees, but talent is talent and he has been great regardless of what team he was on. He is in a talented pitching staff but is still standing out.

Mason Miller (+320): Mason Miller is seeing his opportunity this season after getting drafted in the third round of the MLB Draft in 2021. He made his debut in the MLB last season and has emerged even more as the best closer on the Athletics and maybe in the MLB. Mason Miller has given the team hope after the apathy surrounding the team with everything related to the team relocating. There are still trade rumors surrounding Miller despite his play. Miller has 11 saves, a 2.08 ERA, 51 strikeouts, and a 0.88 WHIP through 20 games this season with the Athletics. Miller came from a smaller college, Gardner Webb, and has been thriving so far in the MLB, but it remains to be seen if he will stay with the Oakland Athletics or be traded before the deadline in July and that could be an issue with the rewards.

Wilyer Abreu (+600): Wilyer Abreu is thriving for the Boston Red Sox behind the plate and in the outfield. He was initially called up to the MLB last season. He came over as an international free agent. This season, Abreu has a .284 batting average, a .356 OBP, a .510 SLG, and a .866 OPS. He also has six home runs and 22 RBI. He has played well and stood out for a Boston Red Sox offense that has had inconsistency issues across the board. He is not the leader in any of these batting categories on the team and that could hurt him in the long run for this reward.
