Margot Robbie appears to have jumped ship from her planned Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Margot Robbie Barbie

According to Jeff Sneider of the Hot Mic podcast, Robbie doesn't appear to be involved at all with her Pirates of the Caribbean movie. He said that from what he's heard, “it wasn't going to be Margot” anymore. Presumably, he meant in the leading role.

This film has gone through a roller coaster of updates. The film seemed DOA but then producer Jerry Bruckheimer, speaking to Collider, seemed confident that the film would “come forward” at some point.

That no longer seems to be the case. At some point or another, Disney will likely revive the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Beginning in 2003, the series has grossed a whopping $4.5 billion worldwide across its five installments. Two films, Dead Man's Chest and On Stranger Tides, grossed over $1 billion each.

Johnny Depp led the first five films in the series. With his trial with Amber Heard, it's unclear if he will ever reprise the iconic role of Jack Sparrow.

Meanwhile, Margot Robbie may be too busy with other projects for the Pirates of the Caribbean series anyway. Her big break came in The Wolf of Wall Street, and she would go on to star in the DCEU (now DCU) as Harley Quinn in multiple movies, I, Tonya, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Over the past year, she has starred in Babylon and Asteroid City. Her big 2023 project, though, was Barbie. In Greta Gerwig's film, she starred as the titular character as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery with Ken (Ryan Gosling).

Barbie has been the biggest hit of the year. It grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide and will be a major player at the Oscars.
