Dallas Mavericks power forward Kristaps Porzingis was hindered by a knee ailment in the Mavs' playoff series versus the Los Angeles Clippers.

After considering his options following the team's elimination from the postseason, Porzingis has undergone surgery to repair a meniscus tear, per the Mavericks' public relations Twitter account.

To begin their playoffs, the Mavericks would be matched up against the Clippers in the first round. Early in Game 1, Porzingis would make an early exit after sustaining a knee injury that would keep him sidelined for the rest of the contest.

Despite the severity of the injury, Porzingis would proceed to play in the next two games against Los Angeles. The sharpshooting power forward would combine for 57 points and 20 rebounds in Games 2 and 3. Above all, the Mavericks would escape with a win in Game 2, winning by 13 points.

However, even though he attempted to play through the injury, Porzingis would be ruled out for the final three games of the series. As a result of his absence, Dallas would fall to Los Angeles in six games, immediately sending them home from the bubble.

Even though the injury occurred in August, Porzingis has evidently been mulling his options. And after breaking down everything, he's decided to undergo surgery on his right knee and will begin rehab immediately.

With the news of Porzingis going through with surgery, the Mavericks announced they don't have a set timetable for his return. Seeing that the 2019-20 season is nearing a close, some will wonder if he misses the start of the 2020-21 season.
