Luka Doncic's status has been “upgraded” ahead of the Dallas Mavericks' second straight game against the Phoenix Suns, but he is still closer to sitting out than returning.

The Mavs labeled Doncic as “doubtful” for the second game of their back-to-back against the Suns on Friday. However, it is considered as a slight upgrade after he was listed as out during Wednesday's showdown.

Of course it is still possible that Luka Doncic's condition improves and the Mavs elevate his status in the hours heading into the contest. Nonetheless, as it currently stands, it is more likely for Dallas to sit him out once again.

Doncic suffered knee and ankle injuries during Monday's game against the Denver Nuggets. In the final minute of the contest, he contested a driving layup from Austin Rivers who fell onto his leg. The Slovenian wonderboy was obviously hurt as he limped off the court after the incident.

While the team revealed the injuries are not too serious, it won't be surprising if the Mavs err on the side of caution with regards to Doncic's injury. After all, rushing him back instead of letting him heal posts more risks for the team. Not to mention that they did just fine against the Suns despite missing their best player.

Dallas may have lost to Phoenix, but they fought well with Kristaps Porzingis, Jalen Brunson and Tim Hardaway Jr. leading the way. If Doncic does miss the showdown with Phoenix, KP and THJ will be tasked once again to carry the scoring load, while Brunson is expected to do more playmakin.
