Metroid Dread is getting new game modes to add to its replayability through free updates coming this year.

All three new game modes for Metroid Dread were revealed during the February 9 Nintendo Direct. The first two game modes tinker with the game's difficulty. Rookie Mode completely lowers the difficulty, making less dextrous players more able to finish the game. Rookie Mode increases health regeneration, giving less experienced players more room for error from getting hit. The other difficulty mode is Dread Mode, which makes the game almost impossible to finish for many players. In Dread Mode, players die from a single hit, regardless of the source. Both difficulty game modes became unlocked as a game update hit on February 9.

Meanwhile, a third game mode – Boss Rush Mode – will be coming as well as a free update. Boss Rush Mode allows players to hit a high score and the fastest completion time of beating a gauntlet of boss enemies. If you think that you've got the bosses all figured out, here's your chance to prove it and put your money where your mouth is. The Boss Rush Mode will be coming sometime in April 2022.

Metroid Dread is exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch.
