The New York Mets engaged the Los Angeles Dodgers in a heated matchup on Wednesday night. The Mets lost 10-3 on a night where Jorge Lopez was ejected in an intriguing interaction with the umpire. Lopez's frustration grew after the game when he dropped an NSFW dig regarding his post-ejection behavior.

After the official ejected Lopez, the pitcher threw his glove into the crowd, which Mets manager Carlos Mendoza called “unacceptable”. When reporters asked Lopez if he regretted his glove toss, he replied, “No.” Yet, the pitcher proceeded to drop an NSFW take on his behavior, which he acknowledged was not okay.

“I think I've been the worst teammate in probably the whole f*****g MLB,” Lopez said, via SNY.

Some disputed whether Jorge Lopez said he was the worst teammate or if he was on the worst team. Lopez later explained that his comments were a reflection of both scenarios, per insight from Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo.

Lopez was upset by the umpire's decision and frustration got the best of him. Furthermore, New York has taken a decisive stance on Lopez's status with the team. The Mets are planning to designate Lopez for assignment following his glove-throwing incident, Jon Heyman reports.

A lot has transpired since Lopez took the field on Wednesday, and it appears he will now be away from the team. The 31-year-old had amassed two saves, held an ERA of 3.76, and thrown 19 strikeouts to go with 1.37 WHIP through 28 games.

Part of Lopez's frustration came from he and his team's low production in Wednesday night's game, but he is not the only one who desires improvement.

Mets look for ways to overcome their woes after Dodgers series sweep

New York fell to 22-33 after taking their third straight loss to the Dodgers. They retained their fourth-place standing in the NL East. Things have refused to go the Mets' way as of late.

First, the team placed star closer Edwin Diaz on the injured list due to a shoulder impingement. Not long after, Pete Alonso suffered a hand injury from a pitch early in Wednesday's game that saw him make an abrupt exit. Hopefully, both stars make speedy recoveries amid their team's performance woes.

Through 54 games, Pete Alonso has batted a .231 average, hit 12 home runs (tied for 11th in the league), and has been responsible for 26 RBI with a .758 OPS. The 29-year-old had high aspirations to help his team make an improved run after their subpar 2023 showing. Edwin Diaz hoped to do the same.

Diaz amassed five saves, held a 5.40 ERA, and threw 30 strikeouts on 1.25 WHIP in his 20 appearances. Like Alonso, the star closer's production has not resulted in the success he would like the Mets to have.

Nevertheless, New York can overcome their woes and turn things around. The Mets are preparing for another challenging series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. New York will get a chance to prove their depth as the team looks to take advantage of another opportunity to win.

It will be interesting to see how the Mets respond to challenging times.
