Max Scherzer picked up another injury during his recovery from an oblique strain. The New York Mets' star pitcher has his own dog to thank for it.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Scherzer was bitten on his non-throwing hand. The Mets are not concerned about him missing time but it is still a bit worrisome.

At home in Florida, the Mets right-hander was bitten by one of his dogs in recent days, according to a source. The bite was to Scherzer’s non-pitching (left) hand, lessening the team’s concern.

Puma provided an update two hours after his initial report saying that the bite was indeed on Scherzer's throwing hand. Still, it won't impact the Mets star's rehab.

Scherzer has been fantastic so far this season. In 49.2 innings of work, he has a 2.54 ERA with 59 strikeouts and a FIP of 2.98. He is still weeks away from coming back due to his oblique injury. The Mets are holding down the fort while he recovers, though.

The Mets are no stranger to injuries this season but now they are becoming strange. Francisco Lindor fractured his finger after jamming it in a hotel room door and missed a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Team owner Steve Cohen got a real kick out of that one.

The Mets are 35-19 on the season without Jacob deGrom, who has missed the entirety of the season up to this point with a scapula injury. Whenever he and Scherzer get back in action, New York could truly establish itself as the best team in baseball.
