Things got heated on Friday night between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals when Josiah Gray nailed star shortstop Francisco Lindor in the face with an 88 mph pitch. Lindor instantly hit the ground in pain and right after the incident, both benches cleared, with Buck Showalter leading the charge and going after Gray for plunking his infielder.

Lindor eventually left the game, but thankfully, he didn't suffer any serious injuries.

Via ESPN's Jeff Passan:

Thankfully, the Mets superstar was only hit in the C-flap, which sends a massive vibration throughout your head. No broken bones in the jaw and no concussion is a massive positive. New York has already been hit a couple of injury blows, with Jacob deGrom going on the IL until at least June due to a scapula problem. Max Scherzer is dealing with hamstring soreness as well. He was supposed to start on Opening Day.

As of writing, the Mets are up 6-3 on the Nats. That was Lindor's second at-bat of the game, striking out in his other plate appearance. The 28-year-old is just 1 for 6 to begin the season after a poor debut campaign with NY in 2021, hitting .230. He did go deep 20 times, though.

Hopefully, Francisco Lindor is back in the lineup for Game 3 of the series on Saturday as he looks to bounce back in 22′.
