Mick Jagger scared fans during the Rolling Stones‘ 2024 “Hackney Diamonds” tour show in Atlanta.

This was due to the band's setlist change. Throughout the tour, the Stones have been letting guitarist Keith Richards sing two songs, “Tell Me Straight” and “Little T&A.” However, during the Atlanta show, Richards sang three songs.

“Happy” made its tour debut with Richards on lead vocals. Meanwhile, Jagger was nowhere to be seen until the next song. The sequence of “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Honky Tonk Women,” “Midnight Rambler,” “Gimme Shelter,” “Paint It Black,” and “Jumpin' Jack Flash” closed out the main set.

In the encore, another change was made. “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” was omitted from the set. The song is from Hackney Diamonds and was recorded with Lady Gaga in the studio. “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction” was the lone song played during the encore.

Stones fans worried

Fans of the Rolling Stones were worried by Mick Jagger's extended absence and the subsequent setlist changes.

One fan in attendance noted that Richards performed a third song “due to the band's request.” They noted that the Stones luckily have a few days to rest before their next show in Philadelphia.

Another fan in the replies noticed that Jagger's voice “sounded ever-so-slightly different” during the show's final songs. They thought that it was a tech issue.

“He needed a longer break in the middle,” a different user replied. “But apparently faded out before the end and only did one [song in the] encore. Touring is exhausting. Stay healthy boys!”

To play devil's advocate, another user noted that Richards performing three songs was on the printed setlist. “It was NOT some kind of audible,” they said.

Perhaps that is true. It is also possible that Jagger wasn't feeling like his normal self earlier in the day and the Stones had to change their setlist.

Of course, the most important thing is that Jagger is okay. He is now 80 years old, and touring can only get harder with age. It's admirable that the Rolling Stones are willing to tour at all.

Luckily, there are only eight shows left on the itinerary of the Rolling Stones' 2024 “Hackney Diamonds” tour. Only 20 dates are planned for the Stones' latest concert tour.

The “Hackney Diamonds” tour commenced on April 28, 2024, with a show in Houston. They followed that up with a show at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

Dates in various North American stadiums have been played. The Rolling Stones will conclude the tour with a show in Ridgedale, Mo., at the Thunder Ridge Nature Arena on July 21, 2024.

The “Hackney Diamonds” tour is in support of the Rolling Stones' latest album of the same name. Hackney Diamonds is the first album from the band of new material since 2005's A Bigger Bang.

While longtime drummer Charlie Watts passed away before Hackney Diamonds came out, the Stones collaborated with several big names to make the album. Lady Gaga, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder all performed on the album. Additionally, the Stones' former bassist Bill Wyman also contributed to it.
