Two of the biggest cities in America will see their respective baseball teams meet up in a rematch from earlier in the season as the Los Angeles Dodgers will square off with the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on the south side. Check out our MLB odds series, where our Dodgers-White Sox prediction and pick will be revealed.

After being front and center of the baseball world in their matchup against the Mets, the Dodgers were able to split their series with New York but have still lost five of their previous seven matchups. With this being rather uncharacteristic for a team like the Dodgers, Los Angeles will look to right their wrongs by sending out RHP Mitch White, who is 1-1 with a 4.79 ERA.

At 25-27, Chicago remains inconsistent and seemingly uninspired but will be given a great opportunity to prove otherwise against a contender in the Dodgers. Looking to motivate the troops, flamethrower Michael Kopech will look to improve his 1-2 record and 2.20 ERA on the year through nine games started.

Why The Dodgers Could Cover the Spread

Even Superman has his kryptonite, and in the Dodgers' case, that weakness comes in the form of the Pittsburgh Pirates. While the Pirates have nothing to do with this specific matchup, Pittsburgh was able to sweep the Dodgers sending them slightly spiraling as the MLB season has progressed throughout the month of June. Now in the midst of a two-game slide, the Dodgers have not seemed quite the same since getting swept at the hands of the Pirates. However, even the best teams go through winning droughts, as hitting a fork in the road is almost inevitable during a 162-game season. After a well-deserved off day on Monday that followed 31 games in 30 days, the Dodgers have recharged their battery and are ready to roll.

Statistically, the Dodgers remain one of the more consistent and dominant teams at the dish and on the mound. Offensively, the Dodgers are almost at the 300-run mark, as they have generated exactly 290 runs which is good for second in the league. The most telling statistic on offense is their ability to crush the baseball, as they possess a lofty .428 slugging percentage.

On the bump, the Dodgers pitching has been as good as advertised, with only maybe the Yankees being able to make the argument that they have the top arms in the major leagues. Expected starter Micah White has never gone up against the White Sox in his career, but if he pitched anything like his 4 1/3 scoreless innings against the inter-league competition, then the odds are high that the Dodgers will be able to cover in this one.

Why The White Sox Could Cover the Spread

As for the White Sox, things have not been as rosy in comparison to LA. Stampeded by a surplus of injuries that has certainly limited this squad's potential up to this point, Chicago has found it difficult to score enough runs on a consistent basis.

Still, there are flashes that suggest that Chicago indeed has what it takes, as they are fresh off of a 16-hit performance that saw them down the Rays in series-clinching fashion on Sunday in a 6-5 victory. The season is still young, but the White Sox's biggest issue has been following up a good outing with another. The Dodgers visiting town will prove to be the perfect test in that sense, as the baseball world should get a good feel of what the White Sox are all about if they haven't already.

The most likely cause for a covering of the spread and a win against the mighty Dodgers will come down to if starter and once highly touted prospect Michael Kopech has what it takes to keep Los Angeles hitters off-balanced and confused at the plate. While Kopech has the ability to blow it by you with his elite fastball, the 26-year-old hurler also has underrated breaking pitches and a devastating changeup that forces hitters to pull the strings with the bat in their hands. Kopech has yet to face the Dodgers in his career but has fared well during inter-league play in 2022 after he tossed four scoreless innings against the Cubs earlier in the year.

Final Dodgers-White Sox Prediction & Pick

While it is not impossible for the White Sox to cover the spread Tuesday evening, the chances aren't high. Best believe the Dodgers allowed their poor play over the last couple of weeks to fester their thoughts during their off-day on Monday, and it should be expected that they came out with a feverish sense of urgency. Side with the Dodgers in this one and you won't be disappointed.

Final Dodgers-White Sox Pick: Dodgers -1.5 (+130)
