The New York Mets take on the San Francisco Giants. Check out our MLB odds series for our Mets Giants prediction and pick.

Chris Bassitt gets the ball for the Mets, while Logan Webb goes to the hill for the Giants.

Chris Bassitt has been a workhorse for the Mets this season, pitching at least 5 2/3 innings in all eight starts. Bassitt has been very consistent, at times dominant. He owns a 2.77 ERA. In his five most dominant starts, Bassitt has pitched 29 2/3 innings and given up just three runs. In his three average starts this season, Bassitt has pitched 19 1/3 innings and given up 12 runs. His ceiling is high, and his ability to pitch into the sixth inning every start has reduced stress on the Mets' bullpen, but he will want to do a slightly better job of pitching out of jams, so that he doesn't collect more outings in which he gets tagged for at least four runs.

Logan Webb has not been the ace-level pitcher the Giants saw last season. Webb flourished in 2021 and was a rock of dependability in September and October for an elite team which fell one game short of the National League Championship Series. (The Giants would have been heavy favorites against the Atlanta Braves had they made the NLCS.) This year, it has been tough sledding for Webb, who has a 3.54 ERA. It's true that he hasn't been terrible. Webb on most days is still a better pitcher than most. Yet, he isn't smothering opposing hitters the way he did for much of last year's playoff push in San Francisco. Webb has given up only one run apiece in three of his starts, but he has conceded at least three runs in five starts, which represents a majority of his appearances so far in 2022. Webb's best stuff occasionally emerges, but it hasn't become the norm through one and a half months of the still-young campaign. San Francisco is hoping he rounds into form, and the Giants really need him to deliver in the midst of a prolonged home-field losing streak.

Why The Mets Could Cover the Spread

The Mets are simply a very good team, closing in on 30 wins and winning roughly two-thirds of their games to this point. Buck Showalter is the veteran manager this team needed. Everything is falling into place for this team except for the injury bug. However, as you know, the injuries have affected two starting pitchers. That problem will show up when the Mets have to find replacements for Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom. When Chris Bassitt goes to the mound, the Mets have a reliable starter who will pitch six innings and limit damage. The Mets' pitching injuries aren't going to be a factor in this game, which is something to remember when making a Mets Giants prediction.

Why The Giants Could Cover the Spread

After losing yet another home game, San Francisco knows that it has to stop the bleeding. This is going to happen at some point, and picking a game in which Logan Webb starts is a good time to trust this team. Yes, the Giants have been crushed their last two games, with position player Luis Gonzalez pitching at the end of both blowout losses. San Francisco is going to say “enough is enough” in this game. Keep that in mind when making a Mets Giants pick.

Final Mets-Giants Prediction & Pick

The Giants are going to be sick and tired of being sick and tired. The Mets are better in general, but this is a night for the Giants to fight back and stop the bleeding.
