The Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies continue their four-game series at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Nationals-Phillies prediction and pick.

Philadelphia jumped out to a 1-0 series lead on Monday night. Andrew McCutchen was the hero for the Phillies as he hit a heroic three-run walk-off homer. Philadelphia continues to climb the standings while the Nationals continue to fade into darkness.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the opening Nationals-Phillies odds.

Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 (+155)

Over 10 Runs (-105)

Under 10 Runs (-115)

Why The Nationals Could Cover The Spread

The Washington Nationals are going through a nightmare stretch at this point in the season as they've lost five-straight games to date. They are now 8.5 games back of the Mets in the NL East, which seems to be insurmountable at this point. The Nationals haven't fared well on the road all season long and especially of late. Washington has lost eight-straight road games to fall to 18-29 away from home. Injuries have taken their toll and it seems that nothing can go right for the Nationals right now.

Washington will turn to right-hander Erick Fedde as they look to even the series. Fedde has struggled this season with a 4-7 record and 4.88 ERA through 15 starts. The 28-year-old starter has been getting shelled lately with a 5.51 ERA over his last seven starts. His strikeout numbers are low and he has been getting taken out of the ballpark far too often this season. Fedde is coming off of a strong start as he tossed six innings of scoreless ball against the Marlins on July 21.

Why The Phillies Could Cover The Spread

The Philadelphia Phillies are finally within striking distance of the New York Mets in the NL East standings. Philadelphia's big come-from-behind win on Monday night showed us that they are for real and that they are here to stay. The Phillies have played terrific baseball at home as they're now 30-19 at Citizens Bank Park on the season. They've won five of their last seven home games to date as well. Philadelphia is just 3.5 games back in the division entering play.

The Phillies will turn to left-hander Matt Moore as they look to take a commanding 2-0 series lead. Moore has struggled this season with a 0-2 record and 5.79 ERA through 14 appearances and eight starts. The veteran southpaw has a 1.60 WHIP and 37 strikeouts through 42 innings of work. He had been pitching well over a short stretch, but got absolutely shelled in his last start. The Phillies starter allowed six earned runs on six hits in six innings of work against the Braves on July 22.

Final Nationals-Phillies Prediction & Pick

These teams are on completely different trajectories and I expect it to stay that way going forward. Washington is banged up and can't seem to do anything right at the moment. They've lost eight-straight road games and eight of their last 11 at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies, on the other hand, have been roaring their way up the NL East and have all of the momentum heading into this matchup. They are clicking on all cylinders right now, which makes this the best value play of the night.

FINAL PICK: Philadelphia Phillies ML (-120)
