The Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres will conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. It's time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Rockies-Padres prediction and pick.

These two teams have each taken a win in this series, making this series finale a rubber match. The Padres would love to take the series and end the first half of the season on a high note, while the Rockies are essentially just looking to play the role of spoiler to their division rival. The Padres sit just five games out of the NL West lead, so every game holds some weight in the fight for the best division in MLB.

Here's how the bookmakers have set the lines for Sunday's first-half finale.

MLB Odds: Rockies-Padres Odds

Colorado Rockies ML (+166)

San Diego Padres ML (-181)

Over 8 1/2 runs (-107)

Under 8 1/2 runs (-113)

Why The Rockies Could Cover The Spread

The Rockies came into the 2021 season with a rebuilding mentality, and nothing has changed at the midway point of the season. But Colorado has received some surprisingly strong seasons from a couple of their starting pitchers, including Jon Gray, who will make the start on Sunday.

Gray is having one of the best years of his career, putting together an ERA of 3.94 and a WHIP of 1.24. The entire San Diego starting lineup has faced Gray in the past, and only four of those hitters own a batting average above .250 against him.

The Rockies will face Padres pitcher Ryan Weathers in this contest. At a glance, Weathers' stats look pretty good. He owns a 3.02 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP on the year. But those numbers both skyrocket when we look at his last seven starts. Weathers owns an ERA of 4.45 and a WHIP of 1.45 in that span, meaning he's on a colossal cold streak. Colorado's lineup could take advantage of that cold streak and put some runs on the board early.

Why The Padres Could Cover The Spread

While Jon Gray is having one of the best years of his career, his recent stretch of games has been far less inspiring than his body of work throughout this season. In his last seven games, Gray has allowed a 5.29 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. He also struggles mightily on the road, as his ERA skyrockets to 5.16 when he's away from home. Gray, much like Weathers, seems to be in the middle of a slump.

That slump doesn't have a good chance of ending against the Padres. Gray has faced San Diego twice this year, performing poorly both times. He allowed a total of six runs over 10 innings while earning a loss in both outings. The Padres also hit right-handed pitching better than they do left-handed pitching, earning a higher batting average, OBP, and OPS as a team when facing righties. San Diego also shows significantly improved hitting when playing in Petco Park, as they see jumps in pretty much all of their offensive statistics when playing at home.

Ryan Weathers may be slumping right now, but this game presents a perfect opportunity to break that slump. The Rockies are absolutely horrible offensively when they're away from home, seeing their team batting average plummet from a respectable .280 all the way down to .202. Weathers should fare well in this outing.

Final Rockies-Padres Prediction & Pick

It's impossible to confidently bet on Jon Gray and the Rockies in this spot. The Padres should hit Gray easily in this game, while the same can't be said for the Rockies about Ryan Weathers. I'm taking the Padres to win easily, as I expect this game to be a blowout victory heading into the All-Star break for San Diego.

FINAL PICK: San Diego Padres ML (-181)
