The Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago White Sox will conclude a short two-game series at PNC Park on Wednesday afternoon. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a White Sox-Pirates prediction and pick.

Pittsburgh defeated Chicago by a score of 6-3 behind a strong start from left-hander Tyler Anderson. The White Sox are now going through a dreadful five-game losing streak, which they hope to snap in the finale against an underwhelming Pirates club. The Pirates have been bad this season, so we get a chance to see if Tuesday's victory was a fluke when this game kicks off at 12:35 p.m. ET.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the White Sox-Pirates odds.

MLB Odds: White Sox-Pirates Odds

Chicago White Sox +1.5 (-109)

Pittsburgh Pirates -1.5 (-111)

Over 8.5 Runs (-110)

Under 8.5 Runs (-110)

Why The White Sox Could Cover The Spread

The White Sox haven't done themselves any favors recently as they've lost six of their last 10 games and five straight. The White Sox are still in a strong position at 43-30 and certainly want to get the ship back on track with the Cleveland Indians just two games back of them in the division. Chicago is dealing with a plethora of injuries and will have to find other ways to get it done for the time being.

The White Sox have struggled on the road, especially of late. Their offense has actually been more productive on the road, and it's a dip from the pitching staff that tells the story. Chicago allows almost a whole run more in road games this season.

Chicago will turn to Dylan Cease for the finale of this two-game set. The White Sox right-hander is 5-3 with a 3.99 ERA and 89 strikeouts through 14 starts. Cease has struggled in interleague play with a 1-4 record and 4.55 ERA over six career starts against National League opponents. What's impressive to note is that Cease is 3-for-3 as a hitter in his career.

Why The Pirates Could Cover The Spread

The Pirates are a team that is in full rebuild mode. Although they certainly enjoy wins, they don't get them that often. Pittsburgh is 3-11 in its last 14 games and don't win many consecutive ballgames.

The Pirates' offense is in the gutter, averaging the fewest runs per game in the entire league. Their offense does produce over a half-run more when playing at home, but it still isn't anything to get excited about. The Pirates allow 4.89 runs per game, which is over a run more than they score per game.

Pittsburgh will turn to Chase De Jong in an attempt to complete the two-game sweep. The Pirates right-hander is 0-1 with a 4.26 ERA and 17 strikeouts through his first four appearances. De Jong has been surprisingly good in his audition with the Pirates, with three of his four starts featuring two runs or fewer.

Final White Sox-Pirates Prediction & Pick

I think it's safe to say that the White Sox should and will win this afternoon game. Dylan Cease has been a quality pitcher this season and is going up against a Pirates squad that doesn't have the talent necessary to sustain success. With their recent struggles, I'm more comfortable siding with the White Sox to win this game straight up.

FINAL PICK: Chicago White Sox ML (-162)
