The Seattle Mariners need a bit of a push. After their first playoff appearance in 20 years and a playoff series win, many pegged them as a candidate to make it back to the dance in 2023. Unfortunately, things didn't seem to go their way last season. They were locked in a tough battle for the AL West, but unfortunately lost out to the Texas Rangers, thereby missing the playoffs.

Because of that, there's a lot of talk about what the Mariners needs to do in the offseason in order to return to the postseason. One of the names that people have been intrigued by is Blake Snell. Snell, one of the candidates for the NL Cy Young award, is interested in a homecoming in Seattle.

However, it doesn't seem like the Mariners are interested in acquiring Blake Snell, per Bob Nightengale. Why is that? Well, it might have something to do with their current staff.

“Free agent starter Blake Snell would love to sign with his hometown team, the Seattle Mariners, but they don’t have a need for starting pitching. The Philadelphia Phillies are the favorite to sign him while letting Aaron Nola walk away.”

Well, that's certainly a good problem to have. Snell is one of the best players available in the free agent market right now. The San Diego Padres ace had a bit of a renaissance last season. However, the Mariners aren't exactly looking for rotation talent right now. One could argue that they need more arms in the bullpen, especially with the departure of Paul Sewald.

Once you get a taste of the playoffs, you'll end up wanting more. The Mariners now know what it's like to be in the postseason again, feeling the electricity of a home crowd cheering you on. Now, they're looking to recapture that magic in 2024.
