The New York Yankees made one of the biggest moves of the offseason — of any, really — by trading for Juan Soto. But there could be another splash coming soon in the pitching department.

There are numerous big names available with free agents Blake Snell and former Yankee Jordan Montgomery and trade candidate Dylan Cease. The Yankees' pitching has been wrecked with injuries behind AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole. Adding one of those three names can help them compete in a very talented AL East.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees are talking with Snell and Montgomery while also considering a move for Cease. But no moves are imminent now.

Per Heyman: “Though they remain apart in negotiations for Snell and Montgomery, and also the trade options, there’s a belief the Yankees will land someone significant to aid their rotation before the season. Managing partner Hal Steinbrenner is said to be on board with the concept of a serious addition to a rotation that’s suffered a couple losses via trade and free agency.”

Montgomery greatly improved after being traded by the Yankees a few years ago, winning a World Series with the Texas Rangers. Snell won the NL Cy Young this past season and Cease was the AL runner-up the year prior. Any one of these guys would be a big help. Snell is even interested in donning the pinstripes.

The Yankees have talent on the mound but injury uncertainty with Carlos Rodon and Nestor Cortes leaves them with a need for another high-level starter, especially after trading Michael King in the Soto deal. There are still other teams interested in making a splash, so New York will have to act quickly.
