Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was quite emotional when he met the Atlanta Braves for a three-game home series back in April. Now, as he is back in Atlanta for the first time since his departure from the team in free agency, emotions for him are once again running sky-high.

Freeman held a pre-game press conference on Friday ahead of the road series opener against his former team. It took a while for the five-time All-Star to gather his thoughts before speaking in his media availability.

When Freeman settled down a bit, he touched on several matters about his exit from the reigning World Series champions. For one, he discussed on whether there are any regrets regarding his call to leave Atlanta in free agency, which he decided to not get into.

“The regret question is a whole different side of this story that I’m not here to talk about because I think one-on-one, the people I’ve talked to, that’s a different side of it,” Freeman said. “If I got into that, we would be here a long time and that emotion would change big time.”

Freeman opted to sign with the Dodgers on a six-year deal in March, which came after contract talks with the Braves broke down. While there was much speculation that the veteran first baseman and the Braves would eventually reach an agreement on a deal, the two sides did not see eye-to-eye on this matter.

Freeman is not only expected to garner a thunderous standing ovation ahead of his first at-bat in Friday’s game, but he will also receive his 2021 World Series ring.

Overall, Freeman is off to a stout start in his debut season with the Dodgers; he has posted a .303 batting average to go along with 45 RBI recorded in 68 games played so far in the year.
