The Boston Red Sox failed to win on Opening Day, losing a 6-5 extra innings thriller to the New York Yankees. In the process, they were handed an injury scare, with star shortstop Xander Bogaerts limping down the line after hitting a go-ahead single late in the game. He eventually exited early.

“I feel good,” Bogaerts said. “Hopefully, I come back tomorrow and feel good and get ready to go.”

A scary sight for the Red Sox though, who will need all guns blazing in order to compete in a heavily packed AL East. If Bogaerts did miss time, it would be a huge blow on both sides of the ball, but they do have newly-acquired Trevor Story, who is a natural shortstop. However, it would leave a hole at second base.

Nonetheless, it sounds like Bogaerts dodged a bullet. The Red Sox will be looking to even up the series at one as they send Nick Pivetta to the mound on Saturday at Yankee Stadium.
