The Chicago Cubs have not enjoyed the 2022 season so far. To make matters worse, they are getting blasted on late-night television by Stephen Colbert thanks to a home run surrendered by Frank Schwindel.
Schwindel became the latest position player to take the mound with the Cubs down by 13 runs to the Yankees. He tossed an eephus-style pitch to New York Yankees catcher Kyle Higashioka, who went yard.

Colbert roasted the Cubs first baseman, saying, “Now, I'm no baseball player…and neither, apparently, is Frank Schwindel” before mocking his pitching motion. Schwindel fired back at Colbert, telling him that he would like to see him try it.

Schwindel has made three pitching appearances this season, all in Cubs blowout losses. He has an 18.0 ERA and has allowed four home runs. It's not worth expecting anything on the mound from a position player but it is still saddening to see that Chicago has had to resort to position players so often. It shows that they are getting blown out far too frequently.
It gets worse. Schwindel is one of the worst hitters in the lineup. He has a triple-slash line of .239/.284/.389 in 60 games. Although he has eight home runs, he has been the second-worst hitter among qualifiers for the Cubs. If Colbert really wanted to strike a nerve, these are the numbers he should use as the butt of a joke.
With prized rookie Seiya Suzuki on the injured list with a finger injury, the Cubs may find themselves as fodder for television hosts plenty more times.
