Chicago White Sox infielder Yoan Moncada will make his season debut in a return to the team's lineup on Monday, per beat reporter Scott Merkin.

Moncada's yet to play this season, as he injured his oblique just before the start of the season. Since then, he's been on the IL as well as rehabbing in Triple-A. Now, his return comes in the midst of a recent hot streak, as the White Sox have won five straight heading into Sunday's game in Boston. A win over the Red Sox would give them their second consecutive series sweep.

Moncada will bat second in his season debut, a slot that's been accompanied by a combination of A.J. Pollock and Andrew Vaughn. It'll be a welcome return, as the likes of Pollock and catcher Yasmani Grandal have been unproductive to begin the season. Tim Anderson and Vaughn have been the offense's biggest contributors to this point, as veteran first baseman Jose Abreu has been just average.

Moncada will provide some immediate energy, speed, and offensive production for the Sox. In 2021, Moncada slashed .263/.375/.412 along with 14 homers and 61 RBIs in 144 games. A bit of consistency and production at the top of the lineup will help the White Sox make a run at the division and potentially, a deep one in to the playoffs.

The White Sox had high expectations this season, but struggled out of the gate. Now back to .500 at 13-13, they are three games behind the first-place Twins in the AL Central. Moncada's return is huge for the White Sox as they attempt to make up ground on the Twins.
