The Los Angels Angels finally ended their losing streak after 14 consecutive defeats on Thursday. The Halos defeated the Boston Red Sox 5-2 at home in their first win in two weeks. After an impressive start to the season, the team has faced a number of injury scares, poor play, and even fired manager Joe Maddon. However, things got even worse with the most recent news on Noah Syndergaard.
Syndergaard, who was scheduled to face the Mets over the weekend, will not pitch against New York, per sny.tv. Angels interim manager Phil Nevin decided to give Syndergaard extra rest after last pitching on Monday. There has not been any injury news related to this announcement. But one has to imagine there could be an underlying problem if Syndergaard can't pitch after almost a full week of rest.
This is a disastrous update for MLB as well. The league would have had the opportunity to market Noah Syndergaard taking on his former team. It would have made for extremely enticing storylines given that Syndergaard and the Mets have seemingly had beef ever since the right-hander left for the Angels.
Nonetheless, Angels fans can remain hopeful as the team believes he will be back on the mound next week. Syndergaard is expected to pitch on Tuesday barring unforeseen circumstances.
This is Phil Nevin's first big decision as the Angels manager. It will be interesting to see if it pays off in the long run. The team is hopeful that Nevin can pull them out of their current funk and lead them back into contention.
