The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired infielder Jedd Gyorko from the St. Louis Cardinals, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Gyorko is currently on the 60-day injured list as a result of a back injury and will likely be sidelined until September. He also had wrist surgery and was dealing with a calf issue.
In 38 games this season, Gyorko has slashed .196/.274/.304 with two home runs and seven RBI over 62 plate appearances.
The 30-year-old was originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the second round of the 2010 MLB Draft and eventually made his big-league debut with the club in 2013, slashing .249/.301/.444 with 23 long balls and 63 RBI across 525 trips to the plate.
Gyorko then struggled mightily in 2014, slashing just .210/.280/.333 with 10 dingers and 51 RBI through 443 plate appearances. His struggles continued in 2015, as he slashed .247/.297/.397 with 16 homers and 57 RBI over 458 trips to the plate.
Article Continues BelowThe Padres then proceeded to trade Gyorko to the Cardinals in December 2015, and in 2016, he had a breakout year of sorts, registering a slash line of .243/.306/.495 with 30 home runs and 59 RBI across 438 plate appearances.
He then had another solid year in 2017, slashing .272/.341/.472 with 20 dingers and 67 RBI through 481 trips to the plate, but he suffered a sharp decline in power numbers in 2018, slashing .262/.346/.416 with 11 long balls and 47 RBI.
The Dodgers currently own the best record in baseball at 70-39 and hold a massive 15-game lead over the San Francisco Giants for first place in the National League West.
Los Angeles is looking to make its third straight World Series appearance. It lost to the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox in the World Series in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
