The New York Mets just won't stop making headlines. Except, this time the headlines aren't so much about the Mets as it is the team they were playing against–the Miami Marlins. On Thursday, the Marlins were engaged in a whacky 9-3 double play that just doesn't make any sense at all.
Watch this play and try and figure out what on earth happened.

Jorge Alfaro reached on a throwing error and was standing on first base. Then came Bryan De La Cruz, who flied out to Mets right fielder Michael Conforto. But, for some reason, Alfaro was running on a routine fly ball to right and Conforto tossed the ball lazily in to double him up.
Seriously, what?
Although, it turns out Javier Baez played some sort of role in fooling Alfaro into running. Still, why wasn't he looking at the ball?
My goodness, Javier Báez just totally deked Jorge Alfaro for a double-play on a random fly out to right field. Lindor dancing off third for a run-scoring balk the previous half-inning. The little things, man.

Just a strange pay altogether, and surely it will be interesting to hear what Alfaro says after the game. For the time being, all the Mets storylines can be silenced as the story shifts to the Marlins whacky play on Thursday evening. This has to be one of the more bizarre things we have seen in some time.
