The Milwaukee Brewers have placed rookie second baseman Keston Hiura on the Injured List with a strained left hamstring, the team announced on Saturday morning:

Hiura first appeared to suffer an injury when he collided with Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber after trying to turn a double play during Milwaukee's 7-1 loss to the Cubs on Friday afternoon.

Though Hiura was able to shake off that knock, he tweaked his hamstring running out a ground ball in the fifth inning and was promptly pulled from the game.

This is a tough loss for the Brewers, who have fallen five games behind the Cubs for the second Wild Card spot in the National League after losing four of their last five contests.

In what has been arguably the finest rookie class in MLB history, Hiura has been one of the brightest young stars in baseball. Through 70 games, Hiura is slashing .309/.369/.571 with 16 homers and nine stolen bases, and he ranks fifth among qualified rookies in wRC+ (138).

Hiura initially debuted on May 14 against the Philadelphia Phillies, and he was slashing .281/.333/.531 with five homers through his first 17 games in the bigs. Despite his early success, Hiura was demoted to Triple-A.

However, Hiura would be called up once again just over three weeks later, and has been an everyday starter since he returned to the majors.

Milwaukee's offense cannot afford too many more hits.

Mike Moustakas is dealing with a wrist injury, and the Brewers need everyone in the lineup to be healthy and producing, especially given the lack of quality in the rotation and the second-half struggles in the bullpen.
