The New York Yankees and New York Mets spend most of their time together squaring off for bragging rights within the city. But before any pitches were thrown in this season's Subway Series, the two foes agreed on a trade together to tweak their bullpens.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees acquired right-handed relief pitcher Miguel Castro and sent left-handed relief pitcher Joely Rodriguez to the Mets. The Yankees officially announced the trade shortly after the report.

Castro provides a right-handed reliever in a Yankees bullpen that has plenty of left-handed options, even with Zack Britton's extended absence. The 27-year-old posted a career-best 3.45 ERA with 9.9 strikeouts per inning in 70.1 innings last season. Although he has issues with allowing walks, he should be a useful reliever in The Bronx.
The Mets, meanwhile, add a left-handed pitcher to their bullpen, which only had two other lefties (Chasen Sherve and Alex Claudio) coming into the season. The 30-year-old Rodriguez pitched 46.1 innings last season between the Yankees and Texas Rangers. He posted an ERA of 4.66 and recorded 9.1 strikeouts per nine innings but also allowed 10.3 hits per nine innings.
Both New York teams have very big ambitions this season. The Mets are looking to break through into title contention but will have to wait on Jacob deGrom, who is dealing with a shoulder injury, to heal before they can really get going. The Yankees are looking to make the most of the star talent they have, though much of the attention will likely go to Aaron Judge's pending extension.
