Just a week after releasing veteran infielder Robinson Cano, the San Diego Padres have reunited with the former All-Star. However, this time, it's on a minor league deal and he's expected to hopefully figure out his swing in Triple-A El Paso.

Cano played in just 12 games with the Padres and struggled immensely to produce at the plate. He hit just .091 in 33 at-bats which resulted in the team letting him go. In 22 games for San Diego and the New York Mets this season, Cano is slashing a dismal .149 in 74 ABs.

For the Padres, this is a move that could possibly prove to be worthy if Cano figures it out in the minors but even if he doesn't, it doesn't exactly hurt the organization. The 39-year-old hasn't been the same player of the past since 2020 when he hit .316 with 10 homers in 49 games during the pandemic-shortened campaign. Cano missed all of 2021 after testing positive for a PED.

The Padres are currently 35-22 which is good for second place in the NL West behind the Dodgers. Aside from Manny Machado's tremendous campaign, their offense is struggling. That's why it's not exactly a surprise to see them give Robinson Cano another chance to potentially find his swing. If he does, it will be a very nice addition to the lineup.
