Wander Franco featured in his 85th career game on Sunday, as reached base once and scored a run in the Tampa Bay Rays’ 5-2 win over the Boston Red Sox. Through a mere 85 games played, Red Sox starting pitcher Rich Hill has seen enough from his former teammate to already predict that the shortstop will one day be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

“I know this is a bold statement, but I think he’s going to be a Hall of Famer,” Hill said after Sunday's game.

Not many players in MLB history have garnered such a prediction through 85 games played, but for Hill, Franco is a one-of-a-kind talent.

Franco entered Sunday’s home encounter with the Red Sox leading the majors in total bases (40), hits (22) and doubles (seven). From his keen ability to reach base to his electric play on the defensive side of the ball, he has been producing highlight-reel plays on a regular basis so far in the campaign.

Franco not only wowed Hill during the Rays’ three-game series against the Red Sox, but he also received high acclaim from Xander Bogaerts. The Red Sox shortstop noted after Friday’s game that Franco is “Ozzie Smith with the glove, Barry Bonds with the bat.”

If Franco is indeed the next Bonds at the plate and the next Smith on defense, Red Sox pitchers sure will have plenty of headaches in facing him for years to come.
