The Tampa Bay Rays have dealt with injury woes after another this season, as multiple starting pitchers have missed time due to their respective ailments. Among them, Tyler Glasnow still has yet to pitch in a single inning for the reigning American League East champions.
Glasnow has not yet received the green light to feature for the Rays after undergoing Tommy John surgery last August, which came as he suffered a partial UCL tear in mid-June. His 2021 campaign came to an end after posting a 2.66 ERA in 88.0 innings pitched. The veteran right-handed pitcher also had arthroscopic surgery in mid-March to remove loose bodies from his right ankle.
The Rays have not yet provided for a definitive timetable on just when Glasnow may be able to make a return to action. From Rays general manager Peter Bendix's standpoint, as he noted on Thursday, he is not officially counting out the possibility of Glasnow coming off of the 60-day injured list later this season.
“Right now the chances of him pitching this year remain pretty small, but we’re not going to rule anything out, for sure,” Bendix said.
Glasnow has at the least been throwing the baseball as of late. For one, he threw a bullpen session in late June.

In Glasnow’s absence, several Rays hurlers have risen to the occasion for the team in the 2022 campaign. Among them, Shane McClanahan continues to build on the momentum from his promising rookie season with an American League-leading 212 ERA+.
The Rays are set to open up the second half of their schedule with a three-game road series against the Kansas City Royals.
